K & 1st Grade FFL: 1, 2, 3, nous irons au bois …

Kindergarten and 1st Grade FFL students have begun learning their numbers in French from 1-10, and now they are using those numbers in a new song!

Here is a video and the lyrics of the classic French children’s song “1, 2, 3, nous irons au bois.”

Un, deux, trois, nous irons au bois

Quatre, cinq, six, cueillir des cerises

Sept, huit, neuf, dans mon panier neuf

Dix, onze, douze, elles seront toutes rouges

2nd grade FFL: Bonjour ! Salut !

Students in grade 2 general-education and ICT classes have been reviewing some French words to use in conversations.

Alain Le Lait’s song “Bonjour!” helped us to review some of these phrases:

(lyrics below)

We will also be using some of these words to perform a short conversation in French.  I’m excited to see how our brave actors and respectful audience members participate in this activity!

Students can also review greetings and other conversation words from Kindergarten using this Quizlet set.

… or, they can review new conversation words learned in this Quizlet set.

1 DLP: Dans ma trousse, il y a …

The 1st Grade DLP students and I had fun together reviewing the names of objects and places in school in French.  First we read Lapinette fait son cartable.  We saw how Lapinette went shopping for items for la rentrée (the first day of school).  The francophones used phrases such as “derrière le rideau” ou “dans le coffre” to help us to look for objects hidden behind the flaps, such as une trousse, des crayons de couleur, et des chaussures …

Next we played a game with our school supplies in our pencil cases.  Each student practiced saying sentences such as: “Dans ma trousse, j’ai un bâton de colle,” or “J’ai trois crayons” or “J’ai une gomme rose.”  We also played a guessing game, during which francophones described an object, like: “On coupe du papier avec,” and anglophones answered with “des ciseaux” !

We also shared some silly sentences like “Dans ma trousse, je n’ai pas de dinosaure !” (I don’t have a dinosaur in my pencil case!)

If you would like to practice more of these French words at home, you can use this Quizlet set of supplies in pencil cases or this set of other school vocabulary.  Information on how to use Quizlet can be found here.  You could also watch this video and practice saying the words with the supplies in your own pencil case …

… or, watch this cute video about kids at school and what happens to one child’s pencil case …  Oups !

K DLP: Toutes les couleurs !

The Kindergarten DLP students and I had a great time with the colors in French these last couple of sessions together!

We started by listening to a really fun song in French called “1, 2, 3, lumière rouge.”  We heard the numbers un, deux, and trois, and we also heard the colors rouge and vert, which was a great review of some basics for anglophones.  The francophones noticed that the song is talking about un feu de signalisation (a traffic light), and by listening carefully to the lyrics, we knew when to stop and when to go!

You can listen to the song and play along again here …

Next, we read a funny book called Toutes les couleurs by Alex Sanders.  You can listen to it again here if you like, and notice what colors the bunny jumps into!

For students who may like to review the French colors again at home, you could take a look at this video or play games using this Quizlet set.  You can find more information about how to use Quizlet here.

Amusez-vous avec les couleurs !
